I decided today that I would get some fresh air and take a long walk. The sun has been trying it's very best to peek out from behind the fluffy white clouds over the last few days, and when it succeeds, it has been glorious.
I set out after lunch and went down towards the sea and Estoril. I've walked this path many times, but today, because the sun was (at least partly) shining, and because it has been some time since I walked down to Estoril, it seemed to be refreshingly new. When I got down to the seafront, I got my phone out of my pocket and decided to take a few snaps...
I stood for a few minutes to watch this gentleman take out from his bags a number of tin foil takeaway trays, peel off the lids, and throw the contents, piece by piece into the air for the gulls. The birds on the floor seemed to have the right idea, since the ones that were trying to catch the tasty morsels of king prawn korma (or whatever it was) were phenomenally bad at catching them mid flight.
Anyway, I had a job to do. Although I was in no rush with my long walk, I also had an ulterior motive regarding my lack of a suitable gift for my wife for "Dia dos Namorados", and so I left the Promenade and headed for the shops...
After shopping, I decided to head back through the "Parque de Palmela" and walk up through the trees a little.
The path through the park loops round back on itself, steadily climbing until you can see out towards Cascais harbour between the tall 70's styled buildings. By the time I had reached the top of the hill I decided that it was about time for a rest, and so I headed towards the "Jardim Carlos Anjos" or "Bird Park" in Monte Estoril for some light refreshment at the kiosk there.
After resting my feet, and enjoying the my beer and the sunshine in equal amounts, I set off back up the hill through Monte Estoril towards home.
What a lovely stroll. I must do it again sometime.
